06/13/2010 - Fluke Fishing Misfit Charters (Pics)

Alright boys and girls, just a short little tale about a fluking trip aboard Misfit Charters with fellow friends Craig "The Man Purse" Scrub, Doug "Ready To Go Medieval On You All" Schues, and Captain Charlie "The Edison Pirate". Despite Scrub's panic over NOAA reports predicting 10-15 foot seas off the coast of Portugal, we opted to meet up for a 5:00AM departure to fish here in NJ...well most of us. I blame my alarm clock, the clock on my wall, my truck's clock, and my cell phone's clock for all being off...resulting in me arriving 15 minutes late. So 5:15AM we shove off in search of some flatties! lol

Charlie had a real good bite in the JCAA tournament with a good number of keepers and a few big fish dropped...so we headed back to the same locale with high hopes.
Despite the perfect storm forming in Portugal, the seas here in NJ were quite nice...maybe too nice. Very little wind and not much tide movement resulting in slow drifts with little ground covered...much different from the day before.

Things started off great, I think my first or second cast I landed a keeper and thought it was game on! Well, short after short came up after that with a very slow and spotty pick of keepers here and there by the rest of the crew. With only a handful of keepers in the box, we decided to hit a few other spots between the hook and the ocean, covering a lot of water but not able to find the bite we were looking for...just shorts and one keeper sea bass to show for our efforts. So we eventually headed back to where we started the morning and Charlie worked his magic to get us back on the fish, as we proceeded to land a few more keepers for the box before a storm rolled in. Big thanks to bowguide Scott for the heads up with the weather radar on his boat! We raced back to the barn and got there with enough time to clean our fish and the boat, and get to the trucks just as the rain was starting!

Here's a few pics from the day!

Doug, excited and pumped for a day of fluking!

Scrub, flaunting his man purse..."it's a satchel!!!"

The Edison Pirate, always out of focus lol

Awww look they have matching necklaces...I mean line clippers!

The calm before the storm...in Portugal.

Nice shot of Scrubalicious bringing in a flattie

Really nice day out there...

Our final tally of fish...9 keeper fluke and 1 keeper sea bass.

Overall, given the lack of a bite, not too bad. We fished hard and all got to take home some fillets for dinner! ;)

Until next time...
