05/08/2011 - Fluke Fishing Schupps Rental

The fluke season opened early here in New Jersey this year, so I decided to give a whirl with none other than the Scrubbalicious one aboard a Schupps Rental.
The logic was simple...warmer water in the river would mean more active fish.
Well someone forgot to tell the fish that!

Definitely a struggle of a day, as Scrub and I tried to put together a catch but just couldn't seem to locate a flat of cooperative fish.
We fished hard and managed to squeeze out 2 keepers on the day, but only 15 fish or so on the whole day.
Beautiful weather all weekend though and it was nice being back on the water again bucktailing away!
Might give it a few weeks until it warms up again before giving it another go...we'll see how things pan out!

Here's a few pics from the trip...

Scrub packing up...

The patented Two-Handed Hi!

Scrub rockin the goatee!

It's coming...

There it is!

My first fluke of 2011 (not counting one in FL)

And my first keeper of 2011!

Scrub's first keeper of 2011...an old fishing reel, possibly sunken treasure from the early 1700s? Alright, it was really probably some guy that fell asleep at the reel while fishing the bridge.

Scrub proving he can catch bunker with a bucktail!

He can miss them too...but he got a souvenir!

Final catch :(

And these fluke, even the shorts we threw back, had bulging stomachs. Upon further evaluation, we find why...a TON of grash shrimp! Makes me wonder if they were just full back there...

That's all for now...more trips coming...the season is just beginning!
