Well Doug and I met up for the 8:00AM start of the NJ trout opener on the Musky.
We thought we'd check out a few holes before the start to see what was going on and several of them were railed.
We opted to hit another spot that had no one there...no seriously, and it was our expectation that F&G didn't stock the spot
But we figured what the hell, we'll give it a go and maybe they stocked a few there or we'd hit some holdovers.
Plan was to fish it for a little while and let the crowds die down elsewhere.
Well, as we expected, there were no fish to be found. We fished the spot for about 45 minutes without a bump...so we skipped out of there and headed upstream to another spot.
We arrived to see crowds already thinning out, guys leaving, all with fish.
So we gave it a go...and started catching a few...

Doug and I headed off after our morning stint, grabbed some lunch, and Scrubby met up with us for the afternoon session!

We tried out a little spot upstream, looked promising but not much action...few stockies up there it seemed.
But I did manage to land this nice brownie...my only one on the day!

Then I caught this "vegan" brookie! ;)
And later caught this brookie as well...
Then I hear an outcry of a NICE fish...and Doug is into the battle!
Oh and it's a MONSTER...ummm...sucker! Nice size Dougie! :)
Alright, action being a little slow, we relocated for the remainder of the afternoon to a spot that was a bit more crowded during the morning but started fading off towards evening.

You can see the dad and kids in the background. I took this pic because this dad was awesome, he was hooking fish left and right and handing them off to his kids who were having a blast...very cool!

Well I was slacking on pics in the afternoon, was pretty good action as we all caught some fish.
Not sure how many Doug or Craig wound up with on the day, we all kept our limit and caught far more.
I think I ended the day at dusk with 60+ fish.
Really a nice day on the water, river conditions were beautiful...not high and fast as others lead us to believe.
Pretty much as perfect of an opener as you can ask for, great time all around! ;)
