Florida - February 2012

Just some pics I took along the way during my vacation in Apollo Beach, Florida...

02/24/2012

A nice sea trout I caught today...

A pelican overlooking the schools of mullet across the canal...

A pair of pelicans perched in the treetops. Another shot at 400mm with the 70-200 and 2x TC. These two were pretty far away, heavy crop at around 100+ yards.

A couple sunset shots...didn't really like the composition of the first shot, but the sun and skies looked nice! ;)

And I came across these tracks in the sand while I was setting up for the sunset...

And a little later, the cinnamon tailed masked bandit came out to raid the cans!

Was a slow day fishing, but Dad never gives up! :)

Well fishing was pretty slow again today, so I took some time to photograph some ospreys nesting in the area. Here's one flying in to it's nest in the afternoon...looks like it has some nest building material in it's claws!

And a little later, came across this one enjoying the spoils of a hunt...and watching me as much as I'm waiting it!

Short fishing and photography day today...just out for the morning and midday before heading down to some family friends Sean and Breda for dinner with Mom, Dad, brother Ted and his wife Ann.

I did manage to snap a few pics of pelicans in flight, landing, and taking off...some more practice with tracking, focusing, and snapping on the fly (literally). Here's a few from the day...

Pelican taking off...looks like a waterfall behind him!

Pelican in flight, part 1

Pelican in flight, part 2

Another pelican in flight...cruising the water, looking for a meal...

More in flight pics...

Pelican swimming nearby...

Far away bird (unidentified), but figured I'd give it a shot...

Resident raccoon playing in the salt and sand...

Well Dad and I decided to hit up a new spot today, and it turned out to be a pretty good move and a very enjoyable day on the water. First time fishing the flats and grass beds, lots of walking, lots of casting and a great medley of fish caught including flounder, sea trout, ladyfish, redfish, and even a gag grouper!

First redfish of the day...

A nicer redfish on the grass flats later in the day...

Even managed to land my first gag grouper!

Here he is as I brought him in!

We changed locations and although the fishing was slow, I did manage to get a few shots of the sunset...

Dad and I hit the canals for one final morning before I have to fly back to NJ! Not much action, but did manage to land a few sea trout. Here's a couple pics...

One of the sea trout...

02/19/12 - Another shot, another horse...little soft, but I like the composition of it, he looked like he wanted out of there...

02/19/12 - One more a little closer...

02/16/12 - Sparrow by my place...
