05/14/2011 - Thomas Elefante Memorial Striped Bass Tournament on OOAL

The time came for a great event in memory of an even greater friend, as many of us gathered in participation of the Thomas Elefante Memorial Striped Bass Tournament.
Our fishing group comprised of Doug "Hulk Smash" Schumann and his father Art, Tom "Canned Hams" Daly, John "Lobo" Lobosoco, Greg "The Vonganator" Vongas, and yours truly.
We chartered Out on a Limb with Captain JR at the helm of the OOAL4.

Given the tournament, more attention went to fishing (optional picture day, normally I hold them at gunpoint to get fish pics), so I only took 300 pictures instead of my standard 1000+ today.
Actually there aren't quite that many...but I'll let them tell the fun of the story...

In the morning packing up the boat at "O dark thirty"...the OOAL4

While I waited for my crew to arrive, I observed the Team Misfists...I mean Misfit preparing for the day.
Notice how all pics are taken under the cover of shadows...very suspect group!
I got to catch up with the working man...formerly known as Sea Tiger Jeff...who is now an NYC cop.

The young gun Chris N

The man formely known as the white Kimbo Slice

And the Edison Pirate in full psychedelic mode!

They were well prepared...for fluking...at a striper-a-thon...haha

Then my crew started to arrive, as the boat fired up!

Doug and his dad getting ready...it's no surprise Hulk sports green slicks!

Tom Drinks Daly in the house!

The Vongas Factor!!!

JR, wondering if his daughter's slicks will fit...they did yesterday.

Doug and his dad, rigging up...

Daly and Lobo, getting ready in the bow...

C'mon now, you didn't really think there was ANY way I was going to miss out on a picture of those tropical short covered canned hams, did you Tom?
At this point, after years of observation, I've noticed Tom LOVES to show off his canned hams...I think if we fished on a king crab boat in the Bering Sea in the dead of winter...he'd still be wearing shorts!

And this is how most humans dress in these conditions...although it is possible Tom's an alien. Greg isn't.

Time to find the bunker! This was a bit of a challenge, so I have a few sequence pics of JR throwing, but I later drove the boat doing the bunker rodeo (that was fun with OOAL4!) inhibiting picture taking mode.

We eventually got enough bunker to make a run to the fish, and on the way...well Captain Canned Hams had to exhibit his incredible canned ham strength where this knife miraculously snapped in half at the mere sight of them!

Underway and moving!

After getting set up...Doug was on in quick order

Followed by Lobo...

And Daly wasn't far behind. Is it just me...or does Daly look like a Hobbit from Lord of the Rings next to Doug's dad here? hahaha

Art and Greg live lining

Proof Tom doesn't just drink...he actually eats too!

Doug...calm today because everyone was too busy busting my balls all day.

Lobo...the uni-bomber

Vongas, always smiling

Art just relaxing...

A little later Tom...contemplating his drink selection later tonight...vodka, grappa...is my bunker getting eaten...yaeger shots maybe?

VODKA!!! I mean FISH ON!!!

Alright that was it for pics on the water, we focused and fished hard all day and put a nice catch together but couldn't come across any big girls.
We had 4 right around 20# with our biggest around 22.5#.

Tommy boy! Nice event t-shirt!

At the weigh-in and awards ceremony...Sam did an awesome job organizing and coordinating the event!

Awwww, see Charlie's just a big ol' softie...

Sam, giving away top prize for heaviest fish to High Guy's winning team

And the trophy...

The winning team...congratulations guys!

And the human cartoon Scrubby organized a quick 50/50. He had a hilarious, yet straight faced pitch for selling individual cards the deck, "Buy two, they're small" hahahahahaha

And a kid drew the winner, who was our captain JR!

Partial group shot at the end of the event...not all were in attendance.

After the weigh-in, we headed to Jake-a-bobs for some dinner and drinks.
Chris...wiped out...what a lightweight...that water kicked his ass

Not sure what's going on here...it looks like some serious religious overtones revolving around a shot glass.
Tom's praying deeply...
Scrubby is looking at Tom like he's a choir boy in need of a confession...
Robin is taking pictures to memorialize the shot forever.
Elusive is asking himself how in the world he wound up at THAT table...

And we'll finish with a great sequence of the Jake-a-bob celebrity...

Mix and match and we have our boy Lou, who was formerly known as the white Kimbo Slice...

But his birth origin is now in question and under stringent review as a possible love child of Swamp People's Junior. DNA analysis is pending! Hahaha

Man what a great time, we all had an absolute blast at this event.
A big thanks to all that contributed, attended, and helped organize this great event!
Until next year!
