04/05/2014 NJ Trout Fishing Opener

We had a tough day today, really tough...unusually tough! But the fish were there in the stretch we fished, they just seemed to have major lockjaw!
Water was cold, I think Brian gauged it around 45-46 degrees. It was high and a little off color, but no issues with fishability at all.
Weather was definitely cold and windy, not the kind of day or weather we were expecting or hoping for and that sun just didn't want to break out of the clouds until very late in the afternoon.

Had a great time fishing with Brian and all the guys from Ridge and Valley Trout Unlimited.
They had a really nice setup with tables and tents where we all had breakfast stream side, then did some fishing, came back for a great BBQ lunch, did a little more fishing, came back for a break or two, and did some more fishing!

The stretch of water is one that Brian worked on restoring a back in 2012 I believe and man what an incredible job!  Just an absolutely tremendous stretch of water with some great holes, really looking forward to going again when the weather warms up and the hatches start coming off!
After we headed home, Brian was seeking redemption at a spot on the way to where he lives...not sure how he made out yet! :)

Well despite being a tough fishing day, it was still a beautiful one!   Was great to meet the guys from RVTU and have an opportunity to fish with all of them!
Thanks again to Brian for the invite and hoping we can do it again real soon!

Here's a couple pics from the day...

Early in the morning, cold and overcast!

My lone rainbow...

The picture didn't come out great, hopefully Brian has a better one, but one of the member's sons was turning over some rocks and came across this delicious trout meal!

And a final shot late in the afternoon once the skies started to open up...beautiful stretch of water!
