07/10/2010 - Fluking on OOAL

07/10/2010 - Fluking on OOAL

Well another summer weekend means only one thing...time to go fluking!
Scrub hooked up a charter aboard OOAL with Rich aka Red, Larry aka Death From Above, Mike aka MS22, Tim aka Dbuck/justbanmenow, and myself completing the crew this time around.
Unfortunately Tim couldn't make it due to a family emergency the night before, so we sailed with 5.
Tim, hope all is well!

We met up around 5:00AM and headed on out in hopes of some big flatties.
As usual, I'll let the pictures tell most of the story! ;)

Starting off the morning...we have Seabass Larry!

I really don't have a description for what's going on here...but I could think of several that are completely inappropriate haha
Scrub...with another classic face...and Mike trying to tie a rig...

Scrub's patented two handed hi!

Red, chillin...note, he did NOT bring any Cuban sandwiches. JR was very upset lol

On the ride out...

We spotted some bunker, so JR decided to throw a net to have some fresh strip bait!

And the end result...

Beautiful sunrise...

Our fearless leader...

We ran out to the grounds, turning the hook and encountering a big southern swell...generally not a good sign.
We reached our first destination and started bucktailing away...slow pick of fish, even a couple winter flounder hitting bucktails!

Naturally with the cloud cover, we expected a few shadows...here's one just past Scrub in the shape of a boat!
That shadow followed us around alllllllllll day!
We tried to escape it, running miles at times...but no luck...it was all over us like a cheap suit!

It's all good, we kept on fishing...and landing a few keeps here and there!
Here's Larry with a nice one for the box! ;)

And Scrubalicious with a nice 6lb 7oz flattie! Sweet!

The fluke were being finicky but the seabass were slamming baits.
Here's a big ol' knucklehead...the fish aint half bad either! haha

We fished HARD all day...the big southern swell, really slow drift conditions, and a finicky bite made for a real tough day but we were able to put a solid catch together finishing the day with 27 keeper fluke (one was lost when it was tossed into the livewell and shot right out and over the side haha) and 19 keeper sea bass! Scrub's 6lb 7oz was the biggest on the day with a few 3-4lbers mixed in.

Few notes from the day...
1) Mike miraculously didn't sleep at all the night before...and remained standing and fishing all day. He's usually good for his limit+, he definitely needs sleep the night before! lol
2) Although Rich forgot the Cuban sandwiches and JR wouldn't let him live it down, he fished hard all day...and took a lot of abuse in the process!
3) Larry is now known as Seabass Larry cuz he was beatin on them in the bow and added 4 nice keeper fluke to the mix!
4) JR may have broken his personal best in terms of bucktail losses...I think he only lost like 3 or 4 all day. He's usually good for a solid 12-15 average! AND he caught his limit AGAIN!
5) Scrub had a solid showing catching his limit and big fish on the day, but I'd be lying if I didn't say he was pissed when I came from behind to land 3 keepers in about 20 minutes to get the first limit on the boat while he was working on his last fish for 3 hours!

Well, another nice day out on the water with some good friends and a cooler full of fillets! Doesn't get much better than that...well except if we had some Cuban sandwiches for lunch! :D
Until next time...
