07/11/2010 - Fluking on Misfit

07/11/2010 - Fluking on Misfit

Alright, so you didn't think I was actually not going to fish both days this weekend did you? :)
Chris and I met up at my place around 3:30AM, packed up our gear and headed off to Keyport for a trip aboard the Misfit with the Edison pirate and the legendary Lou!
We arrived around 5:00AM, greeted by Charlie and Lou ready to hit the water.
Also saw Boston Pete, Peanut Butter and Jelly John and Pete's nephew ready to cast off in pursuit of some flatties too!

We all headed out around the same time into an absolutely awesome sunrise!
Here's the Pickle cruising on out off our starboard...

The Edison Pirate...he looks kinda serious...

Chris, thumbs up...I know he's thinking clinic in his head on the ride out!

Lou, with some kinda quasi Kimbo Slice beard/goatee flexing his fluke muscles!
I also think this is an intimidation picture to punk Chris out for the Homerun Derby that is supposed to take place sometime between now and 2037...

The sunrise sequence...great way to start off the day!

We approach the hook...and see someone lost their way the evening/night before...

We arrive at the fluking grounds after facing a nasty and big SE swell (again not good for conditions).
We had a pretty good drift and were able to cover ground unlike yesterday.
Things started off pretty well...the first fish, also a keeper!
Good start for young Chris...looking bad for the rest of us because he's already chanting clinic!
I'm pretty sure I spotted a bead of sweat forming on Charlies forehead lol

Despite the quick start...the fishing was super slow.
We hit up a bunch of spots, donated our fair share of lead to the bucktail gods
But we kept at it...bucktailing away...

We hit a deeper patch of water where I landed a nice keeper for the box and Charlie landed first Atlantic cod ever...too bad he was a short and had to go back!

Lou with a double dark side fluke! Pretty neat!

Little later in the day, Charlie landed a nice keeper on the dark side of a sundial strip!

Chris suddenly hooks into something...and gets pumped up in the bow..."Ohhhhh this is a big one, OMG OMG OMG, this one is huge!!!"
Double header sea robins will do that to a kid! lol

He lost one swinging them over the side.

Yeah he seriously wore those sunglasses for half the day...hahahaha

Our final catch, 9 keeper fluke and 2 keeper sea bass.

Charlie "accidently" slipped with the hose while Chris and Lou cleaned the boat. And of course, I just "happened" to be there with camera in hand! LOL

Ah, it was a really tough bite again. We cruised around and hit a bunch of spots trying to find a solid bite, but just couldn't get anything beyond a slow pick and occassional keeper going.
We had the medley on the day though: fluke, seabass, atlantic cod, ling, skate, dogfish, bergals...
Sounded like most on the water that day wound up in the same scenario.
Looking forward to that swell going away and better conditions coming!

Few lessons on the day...
1) Lou gets punked easily
2) Lou eats dirty socks...don't ask for any more detail on that, you REALLY don't want to know.
3) Lou likes to lose fillet knives over the side
4) Lou likes to break the only net we have
5) Charlie likes to throw screws (that hold the net together) that he can't identify over the side
6) Charlie thought Chris had poor taste in swimming trunks until he saw those sunglasses
7) I'm almost positive Chris intends on redeeming himself by giving me a bass clinic sometime this week after work
8) Wawa cookies and cream milkshakes are an awesome way to end the day! :)

Until next time...
